Repair Delrin plastic G 1/4 port threads in radiator

Freitag, 19. Februar 2021, 03:33

A radiator fell off the bench during an overhaul, and the fitting in one of the fluid ports became 'cocked' or cross threaded or not right.

I dissembled the fitting from the Delrin body and looked at the threads. There was some damage.
Some of the ridges of the threads were missing.

I was able to screw it back in carefully, so as not to get it cross threaded.
I don't know if it will leak yet.

I am considering thread locking compounds (Locktite blue?)

I have repaired M4 threads in the soft plastic with thread inserts.

Where can i get a thread repair kit for the larger G1/4 fittings?
Is such tooling and thread inserts made?

Aqua Computer once recommended UHU Endfest Epoxy for repair of a aquastream's port

After the repair, you should use silicone thread seal instead of the O-ring.

I don't take responsibility at all!

I had a similar issue having cross threaded a fitting into a GIGANT's port.

I re-tapped the cross threaded port using a G3/8 bottoming camfer tap for plastic.
Then I used a G3/8 to IG1/4 adapter.

Also, all risk is yours.

Thank you for your responses.

I will superglue a thermocouple bushing into the damaged port .

Thank you for all your thoughts.
