AC Fluid

Does anyone know if there is anything in AC Fluid that will deter algae growth?

no i don't know but when my system was off for a while - a month, i have seen algae growing inside the cpu block... (and it had ac fluid in).... though maybe i didn't put enough in.... :-/

there are no algae in a closed circut.
1. what on earth should they feed from? every life form needs sth to eat.
2. algae would require light.

@boswell: shure it was algae and not copper corrosion? that would be green, too.

Are you just pullin my leg?

Algae is a very common problem here in the states. It gets light from the room lighting, LED's, and flourescent lights everybody seems to put in them these days. If I don't add an algacide to my Koolance Exos every few months I get brown stuff growing in the tubes. I start out with distilled H20 and add some stuff like anti-freeze, but the stuff still grows unless I add an aquarium algacide. :'(

I've been watercooling for three years now and never had that kind of Problem.

How do you define an open circuit?

the water in your circuit being exposed to freah air (not in an Aquatube, but when using a vaporizer, bong or sth similar)

then it is completely impossibile

-what should the algae eat?
-where should the CO2 come from
-where should the algae come from? do you have fish in your AT? ;D

there are many other reasons why it is impossibile but my english is too bad :-[

Actually tap water carries a lot of organisms; even de-ionised water is not entirely clean because it can always get contaminated along the way.

Some organisms are perfectly happy living in low CO2 environments and will settle for warmth when light is not available. Algae can thrive on non-organic matter such as minerals etc. So it is possible in theory at least.
