2-pin PWM header for CCFLs

Wednesday, August 22nd 2012, 9:31pm

Hi,

I just received my aquaero 5 LT! Unfortunately, my motherboard died yesterday, so no chance to try it out yet.

Just doing some wiring and I wonder if I can use the 2-pin PWM headers to control cold cathode lights??? I have some Akasa UV CCFLs here which are rated at 3W, but that may be for each tube (I can't find out for sure) meaning worst case they are 6W, and I see these headers are rated for up to 1A = 12W.

What plug do I need for these headers?

Hi Boris,

I am using one of the 2-pin PWM headers to power a 7.2W CCFL and it is just fine, although I think these headers were designed for use with LEDs rather than CCFLs. You won't be able to control the CCFL as the frequency on the header won't allow it. It is either 'on' or 'off' if you use it with a CCFL. If you want greater control over the output of CCFLs then I think the Multiswitch was designed for that.

The connector for these headers is available in the AC webshop: http://shop.aquacomputer.de/product_info…roducts_id=1629

Thanks for the reply. Good to know they work - on/off control would be fine.

I have ordered some of the plugs already as I found them elsewhere, but thanks for the link.
