PWR header connection - possible to connect to the RPM signal cable?

Monday, August 26th 2013, 1:06am

Hi all,

I have a GA-P35C-DS3R board with a spare fan header marked PWR_FAN. Is it safe to wire the RPM signal cable to this header?
Motherboard manual:
Pump is an aquastream XT ()

I have the pump running a 24 hour test cycle right now, no leaks yet, 6 hours in. Loop was filled today. The pump manual says connect the RPM signal connector "to a free fan connect, for instance on your motherboard". I'm not sure if PWR_FAN would work. Would it be ok? Seems the pump is running fine without it. There are only 2 tiny bubbles left by one of the barbs and they haven't moved for hours, though they do seem to be gradually getting smaller. I ran car battery water through the loop first as an initial rinse. The staff at Halfords said it was distilled and deionised. Thanks for the help with the USB connector earlier. It appears to be ok.

Short question: Can I run my RPM Signal cable between my pump and a PWR_FAN header?

can but I am not sure it is really required, as you will use the USB interface to motherboard.
