M.2 SSDs offer enormous fast transfer rates but the downside is they can also become quite hot. When the temperature reaches a critical point the M.2 SSD starts to throttle which results in a reduced performance.

The German-based liquid cooling specialist Aqua Computer has addressed this issue with the high quality PCIe 3.0 4x card kryoM.2 which can be also equipped with a passive heat sink or water block.

The kryoM.2 uses a multilayer PCB with gold surface where the individual layers are connected to each other to optimize the thermal management. To ensure a good quality and reliability the connector for the M.2 SSD comes from Amphenol, the PCIe contacts are plated with hard gold and the circuit paths are impedance controlled.

The M.2 SSD is mounted with a thermal pad so that the adapter card alone can already offer a passive cooling. For the best cooling performance the adapter card can be also used with a passive heat sink made of black anodized aluminum or a water block made of copper. When using these heat sinks a second thermal pad also covers the front side of the M.2 SSD.

The water block offers common G1/4 threads into both directions. The connector terminal is the same as used for Aqua Computers kryographics blocks. This allows using kryoconnect adapter kits to connect several blocks directly with each other.

The kryoM.2 card and the heat sinks can be already ordered through Aqua Computers web-shop. The shipping will start by the end of May.

I was hoping the same thing. I might in the future, keep an eye on the heatsink bundle but the fact that there are pieces that are silver, PCI panel and screws, bothers me in my all black case, as in most cases for others.

Now you should create a douable PCI Card (8x 3.0 and Support for 2 SSDs) and a quad Card (Pci express 3.0 16x with Support for 4 Independent SSD), all with watercooling and passive cooling capability.

Now that would be something worth the pain in watercooling.

This is not possible. Only one device is allowed per PCIe Slot.

I though the Slot wasnt important but the lanes.
If that indeed is the case, a Slot splitter of some sort would Need to be integraded.

Really fast one Comes to say ist impossible. Nothing is impossible. the possible is made only impossible by the lack of Knowledge.

There are some adapters out there that can house 2 M.2s. If you're looking for RAID, I'm not sure its possible atm with the X99 chipset unfortunately.

Some adapters with 2 oder 4 m.2 drives has a PCIe to SATA bridge included. The Speed in this case is the same as a normal sata drive.

Sorry for the confusion Sebstian. I was just saying that there is a adapter for 2 M.2 PCIe SSDs on a adapter. While one is PCIe, the other is for SATA. Heres one and another.

From my understanding and what I've read from EVGA is that the X99 chipset from Intel doesn't support M.2 PCIe RAID. Maybe some BIOS modding might do the trick but as it stands, there is no RAID support for M.2 PCIe which would have been nice.

AFAIK atm, U.2 is starting to show its self and rumor has it it will eventually phase out M.2 with faster speeds.

I dont believe the Slot would pose a Limitation. Just use wathever chip u used for this Card 2 or 4 times, and wire it to the lanes 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16.
Slap a whole cooler on the Thing, and there you have it. No raid is needed, you would get 2 or 4 independet drives. Were not creating a Raid Card here, but a Card that presents 4 Independent M.2 SSD wired in the NVME stnadard to the OS with a PCI express 4x 3.0 Interface each, that are all bootable.

In my opinion such a Thing to build wont pose any Problems, the Power from the whole Slot would easily power all 4.

It would be nice because such a board doesnt exist, Aquacomputer would have a Unique product with unique capability.

I would be getting the 8x variant, since im using a 8x Slot for the Card, where now as it is 4 lanes are going to waste. If manage to get Cards that could be watercooled in one Slot, would have more Slots to Play with.

If you ask me, such a Card would be doubling or quadrupling the design of this one single Card. It should be easily done.

You can´t wire 2 or more different devices to one PCIe slot.
Every PCIe slot has the capability to handle the handshakes from excatly one device.

Than a splitter would have to be implemented on board. This complicates tings, but it doesnt mean its impossible. Pci Express splitting technology already exists on planet Earth.

Hi guys, just bumped into this while looking a cooling solution for my m2 :)
I am just wondering, isn't there a loss of performance from putting the m2 on a pci-e slot instead of the dedicated slot for it?
Am curious, considering the price of the ssd, would like to run it a 100%, thanks.
