How important is EMF shielding for the Aquastream?

Tuesday, February 5th 2008, 3:51pm

The AC FMJ-case is mentioned in the pump section:

Since the motors of the radial pumps emit a magnetic field, we recommend the application of our FMJ-casing. The casing protects the harddrive disks and data lines from the irradiation of electromagnetic fields.

A search of the AC site does not give much more for 'FMJ' - and they are not available at the danish reseller afaik. Anyway, if the case is not safety grounded, how much shielding will the FMJ actually provide?

the FMJ is discontuniued, since there was no provable incidents, when the magntetic field ever disturbed a HDD.
using the FMJ in comination with a pump that has a fixed blade wheel (e.g. all Aquastream pumps) might even prevent the pump fron starting alltogether. if you use a eheim 1046 or 1048 with a loose blade wheel you can use a FMJ.

- and btw the magnetic field has nothing to do with the grounding of your case
