LianLi Unifans- are these working with AS yet?

Monday, June 20th 2022, 5:50pm

As question says, anyone know if these are working with AS- specifically Octo as there was an issue with the fan control- I've been asked by client to look at replacing Corsiar fans for LianLi ones but she is wanting to keep her AS stuff and case is tight for extra controllers- would be 5x140mm fans

Thanks

The Problem is that each Uni Fan SL has 32 LEDs. The Aquasuite can only handle 90 LEDs on each RGBpx channel.
You can only chain two Fans together on a single RGBpx Port. If you connect 3 Fans to an RGBpx Port, then the last 6 LEDs will not work.
And you have to connect the Fans directly to the OCTO without using the LianLi Controller.

Is that an arbitrary software limit that could be changed? Or is it a carefully calculated limit on the power each RGBpx channel can deliver?

to control the LEDs with a decent framerate so it doesn't look all jittery you only have so much power on the microcontroller.
If AC wants to increase the max LED count, they would have to either decrease framerate or change the controller for a more powerful one, basically respin a whole new farbwerk unit.
Power is not the main concern there, although when you max out the LED count you have to be careful with white lighting.

They could also probably do a Farbwerk 360 with only two 180 LED channels maybe? but again, new unit.

This limit is set in the Firmware of the Controller. You cannot change this.
Only Aquacomputer can change this limit, they have done it in the past.

(In theory, you can try and modify the Firmware yourself, if you have the required skills and hardware to read the Firmware from the controller,
find the encryption keys, do some reverse engineering, find bugs in the firmware that allow you to modify it, and so on. This is very hard and probably impossible to do.)

Various fan manufacturers have set the RGB socket to a special specification, the purpose is that it cannot be replaced,
and users can only confirm that only one specification is used before purchasing. As a result,
RGB controller manufacturers cannot support the specifications of all RGB fan sockets at the same time.
This method of market segmentation is to maximize profits. :)

... until you come along with snips, heat shrink tubing and a soldering iron :p
