Fan splitter and AQ6

Fan splitter and AQ6

trying to control a bank of fans with the AQ6 running to a 8 way PWM fan splitter. The splitter gets power from a SATA power connection (only 2 wires are connected power and ground ) and the fan cable connector from the splitter that goes to the AQ6 only has the RPM wire and PWM signal wire connected. Will this splitter work or do all 4 wires need to connect from the AQ6 ie 12 V, ground, RPM and PWM..and power not come from the SATA power cable.

Would appreciate clarification before I get to wiring things up.

I think that if you set the fan channel to PWM mode, then only the rpm and pwm signals are sent meaning it should work. I control my pumps that way and they are powered independently from the aquaero by my power supply via molex.
