AMPINEL: Latest information about the product and launch date

samedi 7 février 2026, 16:35

(Go to the original product announcement)

It's been a long journey, but now the time has come: AMPINEL will be available to order in our shop on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 4 p.m. (CET / UTC+1) onwards.

Anyone who has followed developments is aware that there was a delay of around three months at the end. The reason for this is that AMPINEL operates at the cutting edge of measurement technology in many areas, and we want to deliver a product that works reliably and offers real additional value.

Due to the significantly expanded range of functions and the additional development costs associated with this, a price adjustment was also necessary. AMPINEL will go on sale at a price of EUR 99.90 (incl. 19% VAT).

AMPINEL is a power supply balancer for graphics cards with 12V-2x6 power connector, explicitly developed and released for NVIDIA RTX 4000 and RTX 5000 series cards. Release for AMD cards is currently being worked on and will communicated after successful validation.

AMPINEL works in a much more complex way than other solutions on the market. As a balancer, AMPINEL actively regulates the current on the individual rails, thereby reducing power losses at the connector. This may sound simple at first, but requires highly complex measurement algorithms, as AMPINEL does not simply equalize the current on all lines, but also takes heat generation at the connector into account. To do this, AMPINEL determines the quality of the connections, which is only possible through a complex analysis of the measurement data. Since the power consumption of graphics cards is highly dynamic and the current may change significantly in the range of microseconds, this has been one of the most difficult tasks in our development.

By evaluating the measurement data, AMPINEL can determine not only the contact resistance to the graphics card, but also in the path from the power supply to AMPINEL. The results are visualized in the aquasuite software, where different colors represent resistances in a schematic of the corresponding connectors, thus enabling easy diagnosis in the event of problematic contact resistances.

To enable optimum protection of the graphics card, the following objectives have been defined for the AMPINEL control logic:

1. The current must not exceed 9.2 A at any of the contacts (plus 5% control tolerance).
2. The total power loss at the connector should be minimized respecting this specification; the current is then balanced accordingly.
3. The power loss of individual contacts must not exceed a specified power rating.
4. The maximum power loss at the balancer must not be exceeded.
5. The temperatures at both connectors and at the balancer are monitored.

The integrated monitoring is extremely comprehensive and includes voltage and current measurement on all 6 channels.

The multi-level alarm management system is also comprehensive. This enables a finely graded response to unwanted situations.

In addition to visual and audible alarms, a wide range of actions can be defined. These range from pop-up messages to automatic termination of software that causes a high GPU load, sending of definable hotkeys, shutdown of the PC, switching of alarm outputs, switching off of the Sense lines, and hard shutdown of the graphics card power supply via AMPINEL.
Overall, the alarm system is controlled in 8 stages, for which the corresponding escalation levels can be defined.

The balancer can be limited to a control range of 0-100%. If you only want to use the alarm functions in the event of an alarm and do not want to use balancing, you can configure the control range to 0%.

The maximum power reported by the power supply via the Sense contacts can optionally be reduced by AMPINEL to put the graphics card into a more economical operating mode. AMPINEL supports power levels of 600 watts and 450 watts.

AMPINEL has an OLED display, a button, and multicolor lighting. The data to be shown on the display can be selected in aquasuite. Several alternating views are possible. Currents, voltages, and other AMPINEL measurements are quickly visualized and can assist in troubleshooting the cable.
In addition, a variety of PC hardware data can also be displayed on the AMPINEL display, and text and graphic logos can be customized according to your preferences.

The integrated lighting can display a wide range of measurement data, for example, the current power consumption of the graphics card can be visualized as a colored bar graph.

Of course, all other aquasuite functions can also be used with AMPINEL. These include, for example, extensive logging and evaluation options, the creation of almost any function in the Playground, and individually customizable overview pages.

We are delighted to have finally brought this project to a successful completion and look forward to receiving your feedback. An initial test was already published by igor’sLAB in October.

In the test, AMPINEL achieved a sensational 5/5 stars and the Editor's Choice award. The hardware has not been changed since the test, but the software and firmware have been significantly improved once again. We will continue to take your feedback into account and incorporate it into our product maintenance in the future.

AMPINEL is available in two different configurations: Type A and type B. The difference is the connector orientation of the 12V-2x6 connector for the graphics card, corresponding to the different assembly variants of the graphics card manufacturers. Please select the variant that matches your graphics card; the connector orientation cannot be changed.
It is important to connect AMPINEL directly to the graphics card. Do not use extension cables or adapters between AMPINEL and the graphics card. This is the only way to measure the relevant contact resistances on the graphics card!

The following technical drawings can be used to check whether the adapter can be installed in your setup without restrictions. The drawing is to scale and can also be printed out for better evaluation. Please ensure that the actual size is used in the print settings without rescaling.

Based on this photo, the connector is type B but it will NOT fit because of that "bridge" from the Backplate! The area overlaps with the AMPINEL. This would only work if you removed a piece of the backplate.

How long is the included update period for aquasuite software?
18 months

How does this product handle in Linux. I do have win11 to configure the alarms and the ability to turn off the GPU. Will this work in Linux - no software running as it doesn't support linux.

This is exciting news, Shoggy - Can you provide any information about availability from US vendors like Titan Rig, Performance PCs, and ModMyMods? Do we have to order directly from Aquacomputer and pay for international shipping?

It would be great if a list of brand and model of 5090 cards and their correct type can be provided. Should help to confirm the connector type and reduce incorrect orders.

So far it looks to me most popular models of ASUS and GIGABYTE are Type A while PNY and MSI are type B.

WIll be ordering on day one!

I believe this is TYPE A. (Do you need one for 5080?)

Looks to me in

TYPE A, the 12 pin power connector is between PCB and the 4 (smaller) sginal pin. Clip is cloer to the PCB board.
TYPE B, the 4 (smaller) sginal pin is between PCB and the 12 pin power connector, Clip is away from the PCB board and closer to heatsink.

What connector type for Asus Astral 5090 ?

dimanche 8 février 2026, 00:52

What connector do i use for Asus Astral 5090 OC (i think its Type A)
need ampinel sticking out the top of the card so power cable 12vhpwr can be connected to the back of the Ampinel device from the back of the card.

and finally need to know if there will be a uk distributor for this or i can pay the tax if its only sold in Germany to uk...

Lifesaver

dimanche 8 février 2026, 02:17

Thank you for developing this device. It is a real lifesaver. We invest large amounts of money into our rigs and then we have to fear if it will all melt at some point.
I will surely buy it as soon it is available (on Monday). :)

BTW, I hope that you can help me with the connector type. My card is the Inno3d RTX 5090 X3 and I think that the connector for that card should be type B. What do you think?

Connector depth

dimanche 8 février 2026, 17:16

The most important measurement to me is the allowed depth from the connector on the card and to the edge of the cooler. The cooler typically extends some mm beyond the edge of the pcb where the connector is seated, but from the drawing I can’t see how many mm are permitted?

Ampinel connections

dimanche 8 février 2026, 17:57

Hello,

I have a question about the Ampinel,
Im not sure i fully understand, but i couldn't find about the connecting wires, only that it has ''Power switch output for motherboard (Signal 1)'' (wich im guessing is a single pin)
I'm guessing the Ampinel should get connected to the F_Panel header of the motherboard no? to be able to shutdown the pc.
If that is the case would the Ampinel be compatible with the Hyte Y70 Case that has combined/unified motherboard header connector wich is normally individual pins and wires with ''most cases"'.
If it isn't compatible is there a way to bridge it with like an seperate connector if such an option would exist (if you know any info about this please let me know)
since i presume it's single pin is there any future plans to make it compatable with unified motherboard header connectors ?

I look forward to buy Ampinel bin waiting for it to be released while my pc has bin done catching dust (the other brand wireview doesn't fit on my gpu), i refuse to start it up without any kind of safety device.

(i've attached a picture of how the Front panel connector looks like, and on wich pins the front pannel unified connectors go on my board )

HI, I would like to know if will be posible monitoring the ampinel with hwinfo64. Thank you
I think you need to ask the author of HWINFO (Martin Mailk) this question. My guess is he will add support for the Ampinel, but it may take some time to do so. He has added support for many other Aquacomputer devices, so has already figured out how Aquacomputer does things - Communication method, protocol structure, command sets, data mapping, scaling formulas, device ID, features. Aquacomputer does not publish this information, so adding support requires some reverse engineering. It's also a lot easier to do this if you have physical access to the device. The author of SIV has reverse engineered and added support for a lot of products from various manufacturers by having people who want new devices supported chip in to buy one for him. I don't know how Martin handles this, but I do know that the author of SIV will sometimes do the reverse engineering and then share the required information with Martin. If the Ampinel immediately sells out and they are hard or impossible to get, this process will take longer.

I don’t know, but my guess is the cable to turn off the computer power is the same as or similar to PRODUCT #53216, at least on the motherboard end. To install this cable, you remove the 2-pin connector from the case power switch from the motherboard power header and plug it into the 2-pin male connector on the #53216 cable. Then the 2-pin female connector on the cable plugs into the case power header on the mobo. This puts the #53216 cable in parallel with the case power switch cable. Since your system has a unified header, you may need to find an adapter cable, or buy a 2-pin power connector, de-pin the power contacts from the unified connector, insert them into the 2-pin power connector, and then plug that into the #53216 type cable.

Couple questions:
1. What happens if we exceed the 650w limit (modded bios)?
2. Can we set the Ampinel to stop and restart the GPU driver via a sensor value trigger? Pretty sure this could be done in combination with HWinfo?

I think you need to ask the author of HWINFO (Martin Mailk) this question
We are in contact with Martin, and he is receiving (as always) all the necessary information from us.
1. What happens if we exceed the 650w limit (modded bios)?
Currently, the alarm limits are set at approximately 650–680W and cannot be changed. If this is exceeded, an alarm is triggered in the Ampinel.
2. Can we set the Ampinel to stop and restart the GPU driver via a sensor value trigger?
No
