Can i use my 4870 waterblock on a 4890?

I got a 4870 waterblock, and it looks almost the same as the 4890 waterblock.

Can i use it on a ati sapphire 4890? The 4870 waterblock i got is the same as product no 23459 on aquacomputer.

I wanted to buy two 4890 and only 1 waterblock if i could use the old one.

Welcome to the forum :)

That won't work. The HD4890 ist sligthly different from the HD4870. An old HD4870 block will not fit on a HD4890 card, but the new HD4890 blocks are also downwards compatible to the HD4870 cards.

There is a some certain differences in new 4890 and the older 4870. But new 4890 has down ward compatibity and can be used with 4870 card but not vice versa.

Your card must have one of these layouts:



Otherwise it will not work. There are too many different layouts to say for sure if card X will work.

I think you can't use 4890 with 4870. However, HD4890 is compatible with 4870.

Belive Shoggy, the 4890 Block is downwards compatible to the 4870 as long as the Layout is correct.

I don't think that it will work for you as 4890 is the latest model with quite new features so 4870 waterblock would not work on 4890

So will this layout be good or not? If not, would I be able to either mod it with a dremel or a Bridgeport mill without going into the water channels?
