How to switch the forum to English

How to switch the forum to english

 1. click on "Mein Profil" (at the upper right corner
 2. click on "Einstellungen" (second Tab)
 3. where it says "Sprache" you can select "Englisch" (which obviously means "english")

done :)

from the old forum:

It already has happened several times that some non-german-speaking members in this part of the forum have accidently deleted / edited / quoted Posts or short messages falsely.

I think the same would happen to me if I had to navigate in a French or Spanish (or [insert_your_country_here ;)] ) Forum.
therefore, here are the most important commands you'll have to handle:

Übersichtoverview (of the whole Forum)

"Hi, [...], Du hast 10 Kurznachricht(en)."Hi [...], you have 10 short message(s)

bearbeitenedit (to edit your posts)

speichernsave (the changes you made when editing)

abbrechencancel

zurücksetzenreset

löschendelete (no, you can't delete your posts, but you can delete sent and received private messages)

Kurznachrichten (IM)private / short message

Diesem Mitglied eine Kurznachricht schickensend a private message to this user

Neue Nachrichtnew private message

Einstellungensettings

Zeige die letzten XX Beiträge des Mitgliedes show the last XX post of this user

if anything's missing (or wrong) drop me a line using a Kurznachricht (you can look that up in the list ;)) or post here

alternatively, you could use
http://www.dict.cc/?l=e

it's a very good online translation tool (at least for single words, i haven't tried sentences yet)

As Shoggy told me, some people have problems creating an account. So here are the most important translations needed during the registration.

Registrierenregister

Benutzernamen wählen  choose your nickname

Nur zur Identifikation beim Einloggen. Sonderzeichen
im Namen kannst Du nach der Registrierung in
Deinem Profil einstellen.  This is your login-name only. You can choose the Name to be displayed in your profile.

Es muss eine gültige E-Mail Adresse sein.  this must be a valid email-address

E-Mail Adresse nicht anzeigen  do not show your email in public

Ich stimme zu  I accept

Ich stimme nicht zu I do not accept

Danke für deine Registrierung. Du wirst sofort eine
E-Mailmit deinem vorläufigen Passwort erhalten. Nachdem Du es zum ersten einloggen benutzt
hast, kannst (und solltest) Du es in deinem Profil ändern.    Thanks for your registration. You will shortly receive an email containing your temporary password. You can (and should) change it in your profile.

the email contains:

Dein Benutzername ist XXXyour username is XXX

und Dein Passwort ist YYYYYand your password is YYYYY

again, if there's anything wrong or missing... aaah, I see.
if there's anything missing you can neither post here or write me a short message... so here's my email-address:
wolf (a) mi-wgnetz.de - just in case...

Changing the password via the forum is not possible because the script doesn't work correctly.

You will have to write an email to dino@aqua-computer.de to change it. Please insert your profile link (this one), the old and the new password.

You have to write this email from the account which you are using here in the forum.

Could someone translate the meanings of the smilely faces? Sometimes I am not to sure if I am using them correctly as some of the ones used here are unknown where I normally hang out. :)

Re: german -> english translations

Can anyone tell me why the use of the word "dikes" is verbotten here? In English d-i-k-e-s is often referred to as another name for diagonals or wire cutters. Also the site evidently doesn't like the company called D-y-k-e-m as well. :-/

Re: german -> english translations

sometimes the forum is a bit fissy ::)

And a smiley list:
:) = i think this one is noticeable
;) = winking smiley
:D = simpering one
;D = grinning
>:( = annoyed smiley
:( = sad
:o = startled
8) = cool smiley
??? = interrogative or confused
::) = roll eyes
:P = poke the tongue
:-[ = ashamed
:-X = "I won't say something about this issue"
:-/ = unsure smiley
:-* = kissing
:'( = last but not least a crying one

Thank you for posting this translation of smilies. ;D Most were obvious, but a few were not and I hate to be using stuff when I don't know what they mean.

i live in paderborn right, for about 17 years now and why is this not funny in German. I mean if you say Window licker in english its funny, well given the correct moment. But Fenster Lecker isnt to german folk. Can someone explain why or are our societys that differnt in relation to humour?

Re: german -> english translations

Wednesday, November 9th 2005, 3:47pm

because of the almost completely different language structures between English and German, different plays on words arise, and they do not translate very well literally. no doubt one of our German friends can give us an example! ;D

Re: german -> english translations

Sunday, November 13th 2005, 1:36pm

the 1 thing i have never been able to grasp is the backwards german. what i mean is if i say "At the weekend i play football"

In german its "am Wochenende spielte ich Fußball"

So it translates "At the weekend played I football"

I understand when someone is speaking to me but still its baffling.
