Connecting Swiftech PWM splitters to 6XT

Montag, 20. Januar 2014, 05:33

http://www.swiftech.com/8-waypwmsplitter.aspx

Would it be possible to cut the PWM connector and SATA connector off the Swiftech splitter then rewire the 4 wires into a 4 pin connector so that power, GND, RPM, and PWM signal wires are in the correct order and then connect that to one of the channels on the 6XT? The Swiftech splitter would make for a nice clean setup instead of trying to rig up a wye splitter with 6 connectors for 6 fans and then a 4 pin to plug into the 6XT.

You don't need to cut the PWM connector, because you only need to cut the 12 Volt and GND from the big Molex connector for the PSU and crimp these cables with some new pin sockets for the little 4 pin molex fan connector.
Them you could connect the splitter directly to the Aquaero fan header without the external PSU connection.

I think this is all you need and some crimping tool.

I've actually done it, and it works fine.

Be aware though that if you use Corsair PWM fans, those needs a stronger PWM signal than most fan, and if you got 8 of them on the splitter, then they would run at full speed if PWM controlled.

Other than that, works like a charm. Seanimus actually linked two of those splitter and connected them to a single channel on the aquaero 6, and controll all the fans via PWM (see this post).
