Question about controlling pump speed

Dienstag, 8. September 2015, 22:11

I've just installed a new system with an D5 pump (usb/aquabus version), an aqualis pump adapter and an Aquaero 6 pro and I've got a few questions:

1. The pump gets 12v directly from the PSU. The Aquabus s connected to the high speed port on the controller with a 4 pin cable. The pump shows up in the controller. (I can name it) But I'm missing a way to manually set the pump speed. Is this possible?

2. The pump adapter for the reservoir also has an aquabus connector, is there any use in connecting that to the controller? (I have a 550ml Aqualis reservoir with the fountain option)

3. Should I connect all the devices (pump, adapter, controller) with usb to my pc too? Or just the Controller? Or not at all?

Thanks :)

Supposedly you are to do the initial setup of the pump/AQ6 using the USB connection.

To manually control the pump speed you can either;

When connected via USB, use the MPS pump's own Tab in Aquasuite to set its speed.

or,
After the pump has been configured via USB, set to Aquabus priority and connected to the Aquaero via an Aquabus cable you can assign the pump to a "preset value" controller and manually set its speed. Adjusting the max and min speeds will only have effect when connected via Aquabus and set to Aquabus priority.

The Aquabus connection on the pump adaptor is only useful if it is the model with a fill sensor and it is combined with an Aqualis res pump combo unit. Edit: I guess it must be the model with the fill sensor if it has the board there. It will only work when used with the Aqualis base reservoirs that attach to the pump directly.

The Controller should always be connected via USB. The pump needs to be initially configured via USB and can be manually controlled or you can disconnect it and just use Aquabus to have the Aquaero control it.

Hi,

thanks for your reply and sorry for my late reaction :)

So in order to be able to change the pump speed, either from controller or from the software suite, I first have to connect it with usb to configure it? Bummer, that means I'll have to drain my loop, as the usb on the pump is unreachable with a filled loop...

... Bummer ...

Yea, basically.

Did you read the manual? I just got mine delivered broken so I haven't been tinkering with it any yet. Waiting for spare parts to arrive.
If you're lucky the manual provides instructions and directions but judging from theforums, people take to the internet for help on setting up the darn contraption.

It sounds like you currently have the D5 USB/aquabus pump connected to the aquabus high port on the aquaero, but not the level sensor in the aqualis pump adapter. If this is the case, you should be alright because the pump has a default address that will not be in conflict with any other MPS device.

Click on the "Pumps" tab under aquaero, and select "Set by controller":

Then click on the "Controllers" tab under aquaero, add a "Preset value" controller, add your pump to the right side of the controller, then move the slider to control the pump.

If you want to use the Level Sensor in the pump adapter, then yes, you may need to add a USB connection to the pump adapter to calibrate and configure.
