How to connect D5 pump, Farbwerk, and Aquaero 6?

Donnerstag, 1. März 2018, 04:18

Hi everyone,

Looking for a little help here as a newbie to the AC
community!

I’ve purchased the following Aquacomputer products:

53170 Farbwerk

53234 aquaero 6 LT USB fan controller

41105 Aqua Computer D5 pump motor with PWM input and speed
signal

1. The manual states that devices can be connected
by USB and Aquabus. What would be the advantage of doing both? Or is there a
clear advantage to doing one over the other?

2. Due to placement choices, I wanted to run the D5
pump Aquabus cable via a two-way splitter to the Farbwerk and to the A6. The A6
would then connect to the mainboard via USB. Will this work? As I understand it, this is the only way for the three to communicate since the Aquabus low port has been disabled.

3. Regarding temperature sensors, does it matter if I
connect them to the Farbwerk or the A6? Will all the data be sent to the Aquasuite
in a way that all devices can make use of them? Ie: If I were to connect all
the sensors to let’s say the Farbwerk, would I still be able to control the fan
and pump speed based on that data along with the light strips?

4. Lastly, and this is just a power related
question: I’m using an EVGA G3 850w power supply. I was hoping to use a single
molex to power all three devices. 23w from D5 pump, 13w from the fans running
off the A6, and approx 6w of lights. As far as I can tell it seems reasonable,
am I missing something or is this good to go?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

You can use either Aquabus or USB but you have to connect USB first in order for the Aquaero etc. to be seen. Once done you can disconnect the USB and just use Aquabus, or have both. I personally just keep them both connected. :)

USB connection:
- is required if system parameters need to be set on an AC device
- is required to update firmware on AC devices
- allows the aquasuite to communicate with AC devices directly
The advantage of not using USB is less cabling

Aquabus connection:
- allows the aquaero to communicate with AC devices directly
- allows the aquaero to control AC devices via a controller

The pump you list is NOT aquabus enabled and the PWM connector would plug directly onto one of the PWM ports on the aquaero
In your scenario you should not need an aquabus Y-connector as the only aquabus connection would be the farbwerk

The aquabus low port on the aquaero has been REASSIGNED

I have no experience with the farbwerk and will leave questions three to someone who does.

Also question four I will leave to someone more competent.

Thanks for the advice!

So I take it that if I ran a USB from both the A6 and the Farbwerk to the MB and then a 3 pin Aquabus cable between the two I would gain the most advantages?

And there's no point in using a 4pin Aquabus, since the fourth pin is for power regulation and that's cover by the Molex connections to each device correct?

I can't help much with the farbwerk and what can be done over the aquabus connection, sorry... hopefully someone will jump in to help.

I believe you are correct on the 3-pin aquabus cable between the aquaero and the farbwerk.
Personally, I always use 4-pin aquabus cables because there is no down-side, and it is simpler to not have to think about it.

Great! I'll pick up a 4 pin Aquabus cable with my next watercooling parts order! Thanks again for the help 8)
