Hey!
I just received a waterblock and active backplate for the 3090 Strix.
I'm a bit confused about the thermal pads used for the backplate.
Here are the pads that were included: https://imgur.com/a/RDjLUep In the picture, the top pads are the thicker ones (2mm?) and the bottom ones thinner (1mm?)
According to the manual, the thick pads go to the green areas (back of the GPU die and VRMs) and the thin ones go on the red (memory). I don't quite understand how I'm supposed to cover the rightmost green area with the ticker pads that I received. I've read in the German forum that someone had 3 thick and 3 thin pads rather than 1 and 5 respectively like I have. Have I been sent the wrong pads or am I understanding something incorrectly?
I might have also received the wrong pads. There are three thicknesses in my kit: the thick pre-cut pads, three medium rectangles, and three thin rectangles. Which of the rectangles should I be using?
For the record, the thin ones (1mm) are the correct ones for the red areas. I checked with calipers, and the memory is 1.25mm tall and the backplate spacers are 2mm. This leaves a 0.75mm gap, which would be 25% compression on the 1.0mm thermal pads (the thinnest of the three) in the bag.
