Fallback with a Virtual Software Sensor source

Montag, 1. Mai 2023, 05:39

Today the Aquacomputer Service stopped running on my system
Consequently, the Virtual Software Sensor "Coolant/Ambient delta t" display gauge went to zero
Surprisingly the Fan RPM gauge also went to zero, and the fans stopped
The fan Setting tab has the Fallback specified at 50%
- Soft.Sensor Source -> virtual_soft_sensor.jpg
- Fan Fallback setting -> fan_fall_back.jpg

Is the Fallback option not able to detect a source failure if it comes from a Virtual Software Sensor?

Edit: I tried to break things by disabling the Aquacomputer Service manually, and the Fallback works as expected
I am not sure what set of conditions caused the fans to not run during the fail earlier.

you'd have to set a fallback value for each sensor input, in your virtual sensor.

As far as the controller is concerned, the virtual sensor is probably still here, so the hardware fallback doesn't kick in.
you can set the ambient sensor fallback to an arbitrary 20°C for example, and the water temp fallback to a not arbitrary 22°C, which would give you roughly 50% PWM on your fan curve.
That would be the speed your fans would stay at if the service crashes, or also when the system boots.
