Direction of flow on cuplex xt di ?

Sonntag, 17. Februar 2008, 02:21

Hi,

I am building a new rig with the cuplex xt di as cpu cooler.

And I have a simple question, is there any difference in performance given the direction of water flow on this unit.

That is, is there any difference in performance given which way the unit is mounted? And may somebody please indicate the optimal way of mounting this cooler, given a vertical mounting of mobo (Asus p5e3 dlx in a Lian Li PC-G70). I am thus thinking of the direction of water flow, and the geometrical setup of the unit ("bottom up", or "top down")

yes, there's a difference.
on this picture input is on the right. (but afaik the latest version of the cooler has an engraving on the lid that says "in" and "out")

if you look into the fittings you'll see the silvery metal on the input-side, and copper on the output side.

if possible, mount the cooler in a way the output is on top. it will help you to get the air out of the loop faster, after filling the system. performance does not differ from how you mount the cooler.

Thanks a lot!

The geometrical setup was as I expected, and now that I know the direction of flow, I can mount it propperly.

(I have to look closer, but I did not see the in/out on the cooler)

Again, thank you for a quick answer 8)

Yup, I agree with the above. You want the block to "push" the water into the copper pillars on the baseplate. Also, mounting the intake above the exhaust aids in bleeding air bubbles.

HOWEVER, I have installed one of these things in backwards (on accident, it was a twinplex XT) and noticed zero performance drop. i.e. temps were the same, flow meter was the same, etc.
