Help with new system

Montag, 23. Juni 2008, 02:35

Hello all, I've already emailed shop support for suggestions about the new watercooling system I'd like to setup (I'm a total newbie to WC); and now that I've discovered that there's also an english speaking forum, I'm posting here too.
The PC will have these components:

Motherboard: Asus StrikerII Formula
CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650
GPUs: 2xAsus ENGTX280 in SLI (http://www.asus.de/products.aspx?l1=2&l2…93&modelmenu=1)
PSU: Enermax Galaxy DXX 1000W (http://h1124473.serverkompetenz.net/index.php?id=55&cat=2&subcat=7&product=157&L=0)
Case: Enermax BigChakra (http://h1124473.serverkompetenz.net/index.php?id=55&cat=1&subcat=170&product=322&L=0)

I don't know if a single loop can handle a Quad CPU + 2 very hot GPUs like the GTX280s, so I'm considering also the double loop option.
Finally, I'd prefer to have all the parts of the system inside the case because I have a very courious cat ;).

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Emilio

Hi and welcome to the AC Forums ;D

Well given the temps id say you would be ok aslong as your only cooling CPU> GFX > GFX with a 240 Rad but to be safe looking at that case id go with a 360 along the top of your case.

But after looking im not sure if your going to get a 360 in to top with the PSU there so id say mb a 240 on the top with a 120 on the back panel.

Hope that helps 8)

IMHO there's no way a 240 is enough. A C2X Quad + 2x gfx will almost tap out a 360 by itself, unless you're using tornados or something.

Get a 360, and use strong fans for it. Your temps will be too high with a 240. Try to put a 360 in the roof.

Thanks for suggestions. I'm afraid I can't find a way to fit a 360rad inside my case; so the 120+240 configuration may be better. My current saved cart includes:

1 x Entry Supply Kit, aquastream 12 V
1 x Hose cutter for plug&cool-tubing
2 x Connector plug&cool straight G 1/4
2 x aquagraFX for GTX 280 (G200) G1/4 without fittings
1 x High End 240 Supply Kit, aquastream 12 V
1 x cuplex PRO Rev. 3 mounting Socket 478/775 without fittings
2 x Connector plug&cool straight G 1/8
2 x Connector plug&cool elbow G 1/4
4 x Tubing PUR natur, UV-aktiv, plug&cool

(for a grand total of almost €610 ) :-/

so I'd have two separate loops: CPU on 120, GPUs on 240.
I'm also considering changing the HE240 Kit with an external Aquaduct240 for easier installation (as said I'm a newbie).

What you think about it?

As soon as support answers my email about shipping to Italy (hoping they can send with some express courier, not the terrible italian posts system), I'll place my order.

get just one loop and save some money ;)

you can still use a 240 Rad and a 120 Rad in a single loop and your temps will be ok.

I agree a 240 + 120 should be enough. 8)
