D5 Next Pump setup help

vendredi 13 novembre 2020, 19:52

Hi I have a few questions regarding the D5 Next Pump.

1. I plan to use an external radiator with the Pump mounted to it. So I need to run the USB cable from my computer to the pump. Is this the right cable for that and are there longer versions of this cable available? https://shop.aquacomputer.de/product_inf…roducts_id=3487. I think this might be the one https://shop.aquacomputer.de/product_inf…roducts_id=3587.

2. Do you need a permanent USB connection for the aquasuite to configure the Pump? I want to configure all the settings and custom alerts via aquasuite and then disconnect the cable. This would allow me to have one less cable to run from the PC to the external pump.

3. If I need to create a custom length cable for the USB connection, please clarify the type of connector used on the D5 Pump side. I would like to make my own custom cable. D5-Next-Rear.jpg

4. The pump can handle 25W of Fan power but that doesn't mention starting voltage. I would like to connect 8 of the Arctic P14 PWM fans. The specs of a single fan are

Typical Voltage: 12 V DC
Starting Voltage: 3.9 V
Current: 0.12 A

The avg power consumption is 1.44W at peak so 8 fans (11.52W) seems like the D5 pump can handle it but I like to make sure before go ahead.

Thanks in advance!

This is the correct USB cable for the D5 Next.

2. Do you need a permanent USB connection for the aquasuite to configure the Pump?
An USB Connection is only required for RGBpx and Firmware Updates.
If you dont use RGBpx, you can run the pump without the USB cable. All settings (including Fan curve) are saved on the Pump.

please clarify the type of connector used on the D5 Pump side.
The connector on the Pump is called "Molex PicoBlade"

4. The pump can handle 25W of Fan power but that doesn't mention starting voltage.
The D5 Next can only control PWM Fans. Supply Voltage for the Fan output is always 12V DC.

Thanks for the clarification. So based on what you are saying I can setup all the fan/pump/temp curves via Aquasuite and after that I can disconnect the cable. I don't plan to use RGBpx so in my case whenever I need to update the firmware or custom curves I will connect to the pump. Sorry if I'm repeating what you are saying, I'm new to all this and I'm trying to understand.

Also this connector may be called JST 1,25mm 5-pin (especially on aliexpress). There are pre-crimpled available, so a custom cable can be made, it should run fine being <3m long.

Yes, you can setup curves via aquasuite and then disconnect the cable. But, if doing so, remember that any controller data sources besides D5 NEXT's own water temp sensor would be unavailable that way.

Thank you for the quick response. Are the wires really 28AWG as it says on the cable, because the last black wire is thicker than the other 4? Pictures attached for reference. My setup will include the pump and radiator away from my pc and will be less than 3m as suggested earlier by a different person. I'm just making sure of the cable requirements before I start the custom cable work.

Dont bother too much about the wires, currents are not that big. I bought JST 1,25 pre-crimpled from aliexpress (like these 5-pin ). Cut it in two, and you have two pre-crimped headers ready to solder to your USB wire extension.
