A question on the aquatube

Freitag, 11. April 2003, 09:31

I'm ready to order it from http://www.wizarddesigns.co.uk/ but I have one more question. The barbs this site displays says that they are 10mm (roughly 3/8 inches) female barbs. I have no experience how these barbs work (all mine are male barbs). Anyways, I run 1/2" tubing through all of my loop, and I would need to buy these tube converters for it to work. Then I would buy this tubing to put over the 3/8" barb going to the reservoir. Is this all correct, or am I missing something vital here? Thanks, and if possible could anyone explain the female barb thing. Thanks again everyone.

Hi Llama,

Im not 100% sure about inch and mm, but it should work I guess.
regarding the female barbs, I think you mean Plug'n'Cool adapters. If so, just put the tubings into the barbs, thats it. No screws, just press the tubing forcefully(!) into the female barb.
If it is leaky (test it outside your pc before!) you need to press it more deeper into the barb.
(gott, was heisst denn "gegen einen widerstand drücken" in english?? )
hope that helps

i really wouldn't recommend doing that!
you will need quite stiff hoses with exact 10mm outer diameter for this plugs, this system is quite different (and imo better!) from the one you are using...
the best solution for you would probably be to simply exchange the plugs with ones that fit to your system (g1/8'' for 1/2'' tubing)

ps: please excuse my bad english ;)

The AquaTube is available with either 8mm push-in fittings or 10mm hose barbs (at Wizard Designs, that is). The barbs displayed on their website are the 8mm push-in fittings (called "Plug&Cool") which are absolutely incompatible to your male barbs, even if the diameter would be the same. Plug&Cool seals at the outside of the hose so you need very stiff hoses (made of PUR) like Rippchen already mentioned but with 8mm outer diameter.

I aree with Rippchens suggestions to exchange the fittings for 1/2" male barbs with G1/8" screw thread, this would probably the neatest solution. Don't ask me where to get those barbs, though... ;)

Of course you can use the reducing couplings, too. Be sure to order the AquaTube with 10mm barbs if you want to do this. 3/8" are 9,5 mm so this may be a tight fit but you shouldn't have any problems with leakage. :)

Yes, I was planning on getting the 10mm barbs. On their site, it says "Available with angled/swivelling or straight 8mm push-in fittings or straight 10mm hose barbs." I'm assuming the 8m push in fittings are the female types (shown in the pictures), and the 10mm barbs look like this:

How dare you! No really, any nationalistic feelings I have ever had are long gone. Only reason I'm here is.. well I can't think of one other than I'm too young to move out, but I have considered the UK after I graduate.

Well, here's my first question. Do you think it's kind of dangerous handing out guns at a bank? (Michael Moore, Bowling for Columbine)
