Aqua Computer High-Flow Flow Sensor Reading

Hi
I got an Aqua Computer High-Flow Flow Sensor connected to my loop and I think the flow is too low!

I have set the calibration value of the flow meter to 159 as I have seen in an article in XS forums.
It is showing the flow as 0.4 gal/min even at setting 5 of the D5 pump! which I think is too low for a loop like mine

My loop consists of
Koolance CPU 370 1.1 block
Koolance HD6970 Full cover block
1 x 480mm Alphacool XT RAD
less than 1 meter of 1/2" ID 3/4" OD tubing
1 x D5 pump
2 x Koolance QDCs(VL4)
it does have 4 x 90 degree angled adaptors.

Temps are good even at full load for long gaming session - CPU does not go above 50C and GPU max is 41C (room temp 22C)
Is there anything else I can try?

The correct value is 169 impulses per liter.

The flow rate sounds OK to me. Maybe it could be a bit higher but it is within a realistic range.

Hope this helps, Other ideas to increase flow would be to reduce or eliminate 90's [use45's if possible], consider adding a second d5 in a dual top if flow is still to low for your liking. This would also give you redundancy if one pump fails.

I'm curious about this calibration number, because Martin tested and found that with 1/2" ID barbs and hoses, 158 was very close to a reference flow-meter: http://martinsliquidlab.org/2012/01/21/a…sensor-meter/6/

If I should be using 169 instead, I'd be interested to know why - it's not a big deal, and the difference in readings will be small, but I haven't seen anything to suggest that Martins testing wasn't accurate, so for now I'm sticking with 158.

That seems like a pretty low flow number. I haven't hooked any D5's to a flow sensor though, I'm using a MCP35x.
I have all 7/16" ID tubing, guessing 4-5 foot
2xUT60 480mm rads in pedestal (hence the amount of tubing)
cpu block
2xgpu blocks
6x 45's & 3x90"s & 1x5 way "snake" (all rotaries except the drain line)
169 calibration setting for the high flow sensor

my max flow is around 1.2-1.3 gpm.
Just based on past experience with D5's I would think you would get more than 0.4gpm. But that is only a guess. Can you beg, borrow or steal another D5 and stick in the loop and see what 2xD5's does?

I recently read the same article and it made me think of this post as well. After reading martins post using 1/2" ID I would be inclined to use the 158 setting as well. I intend to run a similiar test on both of my loops and come up with a calibration value for my particular system. I will share the results when done. I am also using 1/2" ID tubing.

From what I was told in other forums as well I should expect close to or even over 1GPM! :cursing:
I am going to swap the D5 to my DDC 18W and see how it does.
I don't have another D5 but I can always order one and see how it goes.

The problem is more than likely the QDC's ... they are by far the most restrictive part of your loop.

Personally I would do away with them because although they are convenient they are just too degrading to performance.

It suprises me that you'd say that since VL4s are at the very non-restrictive end of QDCs, and in general I don't think they are that bad - http://skinneelabs.com/quick-disconnect-roundup/ gives some numbers. I'm really quite suprised the OP has such low flow with a D5, but I can't see anything in the loop to cause it, so I guess either that's just the performance of a single D5 through a typical loop, or there is something wrong with the pump - OP, have you tried the DDC yet?

I think people worry too much about flow though, although 0.4 does seem low, the OP has great component temperatures so it goes to show you don't actually need a lot of flow.

Have similar flow from DDC pump (10W), with similar setup. Putting second DDC in series only increases it to 0.6gpm.

Does your D5 have a tacho output? If so could you check the speed of the pump? At 12V on setting 5 the speed is around 5500rpm if my memory serves me correctly.

With a single D5 pump running through a stopped D5, an EK supremacy, an FC 7970 GPU block, an Alphacool XT45 360 and ST30 240 with a bunch of 45's and 90's I'm getting 3.9 LPM
