Aqua Computer D5 pump motor speed control question

What method is used, internal to the pump, to control the speed of the Aqua Computer D5 pump motor? Does it use a transistor to adjust the voltage to the motor, for example, or have an internal PWM generator?

While looking at other posts, I stumbled upon a link to the D5 product announcement, which states that the Aqua Computer D5 pump motor controller uses the D5's native speed control, whatever that mechanism is -- I've see references elsewhere to five speed settings for D5 pumps.

can i use my aquastream xt pump like the d5 pump on a fan control? and if i can how do i hook it up to do this.
