Pleased with fan controller

Dienstag, 29. März 2022, 18:13

Very pleased with my fan controller:
  • normal load condition with one fan swapping every 15 minutes | Δt ≈ 4°C | power dissipated in the 80 Watt range
  • start gaming | Δt hits 5°C & triggers all fans condition | power dissipation rises to 250 Watt range | Δt brought back to 4°C range
  • stop gaming | Δt hits 3.5°C & triggers solo fan condition | Δt again stabilizes in the 4°C range

  • other than the anomalies at the two trigger points, the controller kept the Δt steady in the 4°C range

the higher the delta T, the higher the radiator efficiency is = more power dissipated with lower fan speed.

You can adjust and trade delta T for silence to your liking. Dissipated power will be the same, only the noise level will vary ;)

I did not start out with a Δt of 4°C as a design criteria.

The rpm range on the four NF-A20 PWM fans runs from 350 to 800. According to the chart, with the current controller, they run around 500 rpm (lower with all 4 active), and I cannot hear them under either the one or four fan condition.

It was very different when I had nine NF-A14 industrial PPC fans on the radiator.
