new build

Hi im looking for advice on a new build , the plan is to watercool everything cpu vrm nb sb gfx ram hdd , the main sticking point is which board to go for , im trying to decide between p5kc (are there any problems removeing nb sb), maximus extreme (again any problems removeing heatpipe heard a few horror stories), p5e3 deluxe wifi (this is the board i want to go with) seems pretty straight forward removeing heatpipe , any sugestions what blocks to use , also there seems to be one heatsink running parralel to the ram that doesn't seem to have any fixings other than being attached to the heatpipe assembly , any help from anyone who has watercooled this board would be much appreciated .

I am using the Assus P5E3 deluxe/wifi board with complete WC. As you say straight foreward. I would go for the Ac blocks all the way, beware that you get the new one for the NB, as you need the new bezel to get it fixed.I have ignored the non fixed cooler, and my temps where fine.

Unfortunately i cannt show you any pictures in a few weeks, as I am changing my case, pump, and waterblocks on cpu and gpus, and I am waiting for the delivery of my new AC waterblocks.

I am also changing from swiftech to AC blocks on cpu and gpu. So my new rig will have the following WC in a Lian Li PCG70B.

Aquatube
Ram1: Ramplex
Flowmeter
Ram2: Ramplex
Mosfet1: 26016
Mosfet2: 26016
Cpu: Cuplex XT di
NB: "Twinplex Pro" 24117 with X38 bezel
Rad1: Thermochill120.1
Gpu1: aquagratiX für HD 3870 (RV670) Plexiglas [23453]
Gpu2: aquagratiX für HD 3870 (RV670) Plexiglas [23453]
SB: "Twinplex Pro" 24117
HDD1: Aquadrive dual
HDD2: Aquadrive dual
Rad2: Thermochill 120.3
Pump: Aquastream XT Ultimate

here is a a link to a picture of my previous build showing the motherbooard with the waterblocks used, http://www.diskusjon.no/index.php?act=at…=post&id=187809 (If you look closely on the NB, you will se that I had to use strips, since the old bezel did not fit) , and here a piucture showing it all mounted i the Thermaltake Kandalf LCS - http://www.diskusjon.no/index.php?act=at…=post&id=188122. This is almost the same setup as i am building now, except for waterblocks on cpu , gpu (only one gpu) and pump.
And if you are using 4 rams like me, the placement of the flowmeter makes an elegant twist to a otherwise difficult bend between the ramplexs.

This setup, with two laing pumps (a doubletop), cooled my OC QX6850@3,8GHz to 33C at Idle, 55C full stress test using a Swiftech Apogee. My HD2900Xt as GPU, using a swiftech MCW60, 40C at Idle, 75C at full stress. Waterflow 85L/h.

I let you know how my new rig performs in about 2-4 weeks.

Hope this was helpful and good luck  8)

Cheers it was very helpful , i had more or less decided on this board the only thing that worried me was the heatsink alongside the ram , plan to use aqua blocks except for the ram (plan to use ocz flex possibly on a different loop) it isnt all going to fit in my case so the plan is bolt another antec 900 to the one ive got and stick all the watercooling stuff in that , thanks for your help and ide be very interested to see how you get on with your setup .

Yeah, helpful to me also - thanks.

I'm more or less in the same situation - tho' am starting by just cooling CPU/GPU. Was waiting for chipset etc since there was a lot of conflicting info for this board.

Just wondered if there were any probs with the VRM coolers - like if any adjustments were needed to get them to fit without interference from the caps?

That's great. Now looks like I can order all the MB blocks :)
Am hoping to passively cool 130W CPU, 8800GTS, MB and 1 hdd using Aquastream and Mora-2.

Hope things go well with the build.

My system is now up and running, no problems ... (but I need to reinstall OS).

A few pictures in my worklog ...http://www.diskusjon.no/index.php?sessio…post&p=10619624 which is in Norwegian, but the pictures really says it all.

I will come back with temps etc, when OS is reinstalled. But from the quick glimpse I got before vista locked itself (due to new mobo (RMA) change - I know- have done this serveral times before), my QX6850@3GHz-stock runned at ca. 25 degrees, and at 37 degrees @3,6GHz. Water was in the high 20's @stock with fans @12V, 30-31@3,6, with fans @6V(ca).

Sorry for delaying with temp info, but I had to do some changes with fans and rads.

But to the facts.

I am also cooling my qx6850@3,6 GHz, and 2X AtiHD3870 512 DDR4 in CF, mosfets, 4GB ram, NB, SB, 4 HDDs with water, all controlled by aquaero.

Temps IDLE:
CPU 27-28 (kernels 36-42)
MOBO <40
CPUs <35
Water <29
Fans <55%

Temps full throttle (OCCT - 30min, 3DMarks06)
CPU <40 (kernels 58-63)
MOBO <48
GPUs <55
Water <33
Fans <80%

Hope this is helpfull, and good luck 8)

Can see you don't wc mosfet3 - is that cos' the block doesn't fit? Would of thought they need some sort of cooling tho' as Asus stick a heat-pipe over them.

Oh as well, do you need to wc DDR3? - heard it ran really cool.

I dont WC "mosfet3" as you call it, for two reasons:
1. There is nowhere to fix a cooling block unless you glue it on ...
2. When taking of the stock sb, nb, mosfet cooler/heatpipe - it looked to me as this was a solution for removing heat from the heatpipe in the airstream from the stock cooler, more than taking away heat from anything. My reasons for saying so is:
a. There was no thermal conducting material under this heat exchanger, just a plastic to isolate it from electricity.
b. I have seen other mobos with similar board design, but without any cooler/heat exchanger here
c. There is not a mosfet under this cooler

I havent really thought of not cooling the ram, since I already had two ramplexs from my DDR days. And since I am using high speed rams that i OC, why not?

I wanted a system with full WC, and I had the waterblocks. Why not WC? And I know it is overkill? But that is the fun part isnt it? 8)

Thanks for the reply... I'm kind of just trying to get as much info as possible on the P5E3.

I called it mosfet3 because a danish watercooling supplier wrote it in a mail. I do not know what it is, but if it were a power circuit it could be regulating the -12V, -5V. It would give of neglible heat and the components might not look the same as the power regulators. But they could be anything - as long as they don't get hot ;D.

If you've already got ram blocks, like you say, why not? I've not got any and am hoping to get away with it (this has cost a fortune already :().

Under the "mosfet 3", you find th EPU chip ...

"ASUS EPU
Enables the Most Energy Efficient Motherboard in the World
The ASUS EPU utilizes innovative technology to digitally monitor and finetune the CPU power supply with improved VR responses in heavy or light loadings.

Working together with AI Gear 3, it automatically provides power for higher performance or improves efficiency by 50% when the PC is running low intensity applications - helping you attain the best possible power efficiency and energy savings of up to 80.23% to help save the environment."

But again, my mobo is reasonable cool, <38,48>, and there is only the possibility to glue things on ....

I will do some final changes to my computer setup, next weekend, and will post pictures and test results then. So far my PC is doing more than 18500 in 3DMark06, and above 6900 in PCMarkVantage, running at full speed with good temps (see above). 8)

Yeah, the AISuite thing seems to alter CPU frequency automatically. I got a range from 1.9 to 3.2 (in turbo) depending on the application(s) running. So it seems to even do a auto-overclock - even on that I couldn't believe the cpu temp :D (have only used ac up to now).
Will also post results - am still waiting for a chipset cooler.
