Need Help With Connecting Fans and RGB lights

Montag, 30. Mai 2022, 22:00

I have 7 PWM 12V fans w/5V RGB. CPU and GPU water blocks with ARGB connectors. EK 011 G1 Distro plate w/ARGB connector and water pump connector.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how or where to connect all this. I know I will need a PWM fan controller. I want to get the Octo Fan Controller. So, all the fans PWM cables connect to this correct?
Now, I don`t know what to do with the ARGB and RGB cables from the fans and water blocks. Do I need the Farbwerk 360? I have 7 RGB cables (fans) and 5 ARGB cables (water blocks). All the help you can give me in this area would be appreciated. This part is a nightmare for me.

It looks like I need the Farbwerk 360 along with the Octo controller. The Octo has enough PWM connections for my 12V fans. But, on the Farbwerk 360, it only has 4 5V ARGB and 4 5V RGB connections. How will I connect the fifth ARGB connector and the rest of the standard 5V RGB?

all 5V leds are ARGB. The Farbwerk 360 has only 4 channels, not 8. the connectors are doubled up in case you want to use Aquacomputer RGBPX, or standard 3 pin ARGB.

apparently the fans come with a splitter. one connection for 3 fans, so you could use 2 channels for the radiators (6 fans), one for the back fan, one CPU, one GPU, one distro plate, one for the case front strip.

that's 7 channels.

You could see if you can add the back fan to one of the other fan channels depending on what splitters they send with them.. or maybe use a splitter to connect the distro plate and the case strip to the same header, that would go down to 6 channels. (The EK G1 distro plate has 18 leds, the O11 strip has 28, so you cna set the channel to 28 LEDs and both would play)

With a FW360 (4 channels) and an octo (2 channels) you're done and that would be the cheapest solution.

The FW360 already has standard ARGB headers so you're good to go. For the Octo you'll need a couple of these to convert the RGBPX connector to standard ARGB https://shop.aquacomputer.de/product_inf…roducts_id=3829

Now you could forfeit the Octo channels (they dont support transparency and effect stacking like the FW does), and use two FW360 just for ARGB. Then you have 8 channels and can have more individual control without using splitters.

Bear in mind that there is no synchronization between the RGBpx ports on the Farbwerk360 and the Octo. This may or may not be an issue, depending on what RGB effects you want.

I have 2 Farbwerk360's in my system and I discovered very quickly that there is no sync between them, or between them and my Octo. Aquacomputer devs posted a few weeks ago hinting that they were going to release an update that would allow multidevice RGBpx sync. I don't know when or exactly what the new capabilities will be. There is an Aquabus connector on the Farbwerk360 that the owner's manual says is "Reserved for future use". Maybe they could use those ports to send data between units. Aquabus is just a serial data bus. It has limited bandwidth but it might be able to carry clock/timing signals. Or maybe they can do it over the USB ports. However they do it, I think it will be a significant improvement in systems that have multiple devices with RGBpx ports. In the mean time, if you are planning to use effects that chase or cycle, you need to think through how you allocate RGBpx ports to devices with LEDs. Also, as Remayz mentioned, the Farkwerk360 RGBpx ports support transparency which is a very powerful feature that the Octo RGBpx ports do not support. If you want certain LEDs to have multiple concurrent effects, they need to be connected to a Farbwerk360 RGBpx port.

Thank you, Remayz. I kind of thought that I should avoid daisy chaining. But, with LED`s the current is probably very low though. I think I will consider getting 2 FW360`s. It depends on if Aquasuite can sync between 2 FW360`s. Speey-VI says there may be no syncronization between the FW360 and Octo. Can 2 FW360`s sync with Aquasuite just for the RGB control and still sync with the Octo just for fan control? In other words, can I hook up the Octo just for the fan control, and then use 2 FW360`s for all the LED lights?

Speedy-VI, can I use the Octo just for the fans, and then have 2 FW360`s just for the RGB and ARGB lights? Will Aquasuite still show full control of fans and lights?

There were hints at a new feature of an upcoming version of Aquasuite with.. sync capabilities. I'm looking forward to see what it is about :)
The FW360 won't be synced with each other as of now. And of course you can connect your fans to both Octo and FW, they do two different things that are completely unrelated.
In aquasuite you'll have the Octo page to set your fan curves, and the two FW360 to set the lighting effects on all lighting channels.

That's actually how i use it :

Aquasuite has profiles that you can use to toggle between lighting effects / fan speed curves etc.. and you set yourself what those profiles do. It doesn't matter if your fans motors and LEDs are in different devices.

Like here. when i want unicorn puke RGB, i set all the FW devices to profile 2 which is RGB goodness, and the Octo to profile 1 for the fan curves. Could be anything really.
Aquasuite is like an empty canvas, and you create your own fan and pump control, your lighting the way you want, control it the way you want, even automate it the way you want. It's stupidly powerful, but you can also use basic features and presets and be done in 5 minutes.

It's really easier to grasp when you start using it anyway.

Okay, thanks for the help. I will give this a try. Like you said; it`s easier to grasp when I start using it. Unicorn Puke.... I laughed at that one.
