Compatibility of AM4 blocks with AM5

Hi All,

Can AquaComputer comment on compatibility of the Cuplex Kyros Vision Vario (AM4) with the new Ryzen 7xxx series chips (AM5). Many Thanks.

not an "official" statement from Aquasuite but....

Speaking with AMD’s director of technical marketing, Robert Hallock, PCWorld quizzed him on everything AM5. It turns out that the jigsaw-like IHS (integrated heat spreader) design found on Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 CPUs frees room for capacitors that would otherwise need to be on the rear of the chip, which helps keep the size of AM5 and AM4 sockets the same.

Hallock also confirmed that AM4 coolers will be compatible with future AM5 CPUs, such as the Ryzen 7000 series and beyond. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that there may be some exceptions, and it’s likely that the company will release guidelines on what kind of specifications are required from coolers.

And even if the mounting holes and height are the same, since the chips underneath and the IHS will have different sizes, it's possible that will require new coldplates on waterblocks to cool properly.

Already happened with Alder lake, when people managed to reuse their old AIOs and got surprised some cores were significantly hotter, thanks to Asetek trying to fit a round into a square with their small coldplates.

As always, wait and see.

Alphacool have already stated all their existing products will work with AM5

Thanks for jumping in Winston. I saw the Alphacool announcement and was curious to see if AquaComputer would follow suit as their products were until very recently, mechanically if not technically, the most advanced blocks on the market.
