Ramplex

Friday, August 19th 2005, 1:39am

Right... i've played with a Ramplex briefly and while I doubt its cooling potential, I am willing to pay the price just for the *bling* factor!

Anyway.. on talking to the shop keeper, as he's just had them in, he's not too sure as to how you fit your ram in them...

basically.. Do you take the heat-spreaders off or keep them on? (or can do both?)

Any help appreciated as navigating the German portion of the site for answers is slightly more difficult with limited experience of the German language.

Just out of curiosity, where is the shop that you got it from?

You can keep the heatspreaders or you can remove them.
But notice, that you should be carefull by removing them or you maigh damage the RAM.

And by the way:

so how do these actually fit on to the ram?

thermal tape?

clamp on to the ram?

clip in the motherboard?

???

Look at this:

have a look at this
http://forum.aqua-computer.de/index.php?…&threadID=29867
there are a couple of pictures when you scroll a little bit

it is termal tape and pressure which fits the ramplex to the ram, and theres no other connection between ramplex and motherboard than the memory slots

damn, to slow ;D ;)

So will this be a problem with using ram that already has a heat spreader on it like my Corsair XMS XL Pro? The heat spreader on my ram appears to be thermally bonded to the ram.

Then u have to wait till AC sells the Thermal Pads for the Ramplex.
Or u can get some Pads from somewhere else.

A-DATA @ DDR500 - with HS passiv = ~64°C
A-DATA @ DDR500 - with HS+Fan = ~47°C

A-DATA @ DDR500 - without HS passiv = ~81°C NO ERRORS
A-DATA @ DDR500 - without HS+FAN = ~60°C NO ERRORS

A-DATA @ DDR500 - with Ramplex = ~41°C

************************************************
@3.5Volt
Twinmos BH6 @ DDR500 - passiv = ~85°C over 85°C got some Errors
Twinmos BH6 @ DDR500 - with Fan = ~62°C

Twinmos BH6 @ DDR500 - with Ramplex = ~42°C

************************************************

Sorry, I dont know how to change the Temps to °F
U only "NEED" the Ramplex if u use HIGH VOLTAGE Ram like "OCZ 3.3v+" With some normal sticks like ur Corsair there is no reason for such a cooling solution. For the great Look? Ok thats a Reason.

But think about! Maybe u have to buy 2 Ramplex for using Dualchanel. On some Mainboards there is to much spave between the dimmslots. E.g. Asus P4C800-E / DFI NF4 Series / Nearly every new Asus Board ....

Thanks for the reply guys... i think i'm going to keep my spreaders on as i'm not sure about peeling them off just yet, especially when I may be upgrading (and thus will need to sell these) at a later date.

I regularly run 3V+ through them anyway... as long as there is some air flow over it (never needed a dedicated ram fan) then it seems to run fine..

But I think i'm going to have to use 2 of them, just for that *bling* *bling* factor ;D

Cheers

For all you UK folks.. here are a few photos of my recently purchased Ramplex (courtesy of Leftclicks).

I prefer it keep the heatspreaders on, and it is perfectly do-able but with a yank, they can slide off as i'm not using any thermal paste/adhesive.
