Leakshield: moisture clogs the membrane.

Samstag, 2. November 2024, 19:29

Hi guys,
Is it normal for the membrane to fail after about two weeks of operation?
The unit is just a few months old, I had issues with it getting ineffective over time.
The first membrane might have touched the clear Double Protect Ultra and I thought that would be the end of it.
But then I replaced the membrane and this one has never touched the coolant directly, but it's always moist in the reservoir and apparently it clogs anyway.
Is this the expected behaviour?
Thanks!

Same here.

I baught 2 others. After replacing it one time, it is already clogged (using DP Ultra) and unusable.

Also it reports I have a leak, but can't find any leak. For sure I need to refill DP Ultra much too often, so there is a leak. But no humidity and no visible leak anywhere.

I abandoned.
Waste of money.

If the system is tight, you only need to refill the coolant very rarely.

UPDATE

A year later the Leakshield is effectively inoperative and serves only as an expensive reservoir cap. That's it. I haven't even bothered asking for a refund, I just wrote it off as a loss...
I'm convinced it has a fatal design flaw: the membrane isn't fit for the purpose.
It's soaked constantly by moisture, which is the normal environmental condition in a bloody reservoir, lol.
It won't allow through much air when it's wet, and as a result the pump only works in quick bursts and the pressure peaks and drops back down in about a half second periods, and this cycles multiple times until I get an alarm for too many pumping.
I guess I could remove the membrane and then the device would start to work within specs again, but who knows what sort of havoc would the moisture wreak in the pump itself, not to mention the loss of liquid in vapor form.

I can't believe this didn't come up during the prototype testing, but it kinda explains why Leakshield hasn't widely spread. Even this day there's only a few youtube videos of it, none of them are long term reviews.
It's basically a failed product in its current state. The concept is proved, but the execution has a design flaw.

That's a bold claim.
I beg to differ. I ordered the LEAKSHIELD when it came on the market, and I haven't had any problems with the membrane whatsoever. I've been using it in shield mode from the very beginning.
One problem could be if you fill the expansion tank too high and the diaphragm comes into contact with the coolant, or if the coolant is not compatible with the diaphragm.
I didn't have any problems with my DP Ultra even when I accidentally let the fluid rise to the membrane while filling the system via the LEAKSHIELD and the LEAKSHIELD shut down. I dabbed the membrane lightly and let it dry for a few hours. That was a good two years ago, and after all this time and at least 10 hours of daily active system use, my LEAKSHIELD is still at 96% health.
So I think it's more likely to be the system than the LEAKSHIELD.
The only exception would be if your LEAKSHIELD was defective, but Aquacomputer would certainly have solved this if you had contacted their support team.

How many membranes do I need to buy before I can claim confidently that's it's the membrane itself that's not fit for the purpose?
Please look at the picture above and tell me that the coolant level is too high and the diaphragm is in contact with the coolant. It isn't. The only thing that it's in contact with is the vapor condensation of the coolant, which is normal in a moist environment. No plasticizer in the system either, as these tubes don't contain any. No leak in the system either. It's been running for a year now in its current state and the coolant level is the same. The Leakshield was in Release mode for the most part...
