D5 pump rpm sensor broken -> always at full power

Samstag, 6. Juni 2026, 15:39

I have a Quadro and a Highflow Next flow sensor. I've just completed my build and moved my D5 pump from a cylindrical to a square reservoir. It's an EK FLT 240, so not a distro plate.
I have Aquasuite enabled and the EK D5 pump is showing 0 RPM just like it did in the old build. I could've sworn I could still adjust the power amount between 0 - 100%. The D5 is connected to the first fan header on the Quadro. Thanks to the highflow NEXT I can now see that my flow rate is a constant 163-164L/h. No matter what I set the fan power to in Aquasuite, the flow rate remains the same and the noise from the pump remains unaffected.
I would like to be able to adjust the pump power and maybe run it at 70% or something less audible. I think the square reservoir also makes it resonate more, so your hear it very well now. Also, if I open up the fill port, the sound increases, so it's pretty obvious what's causing it.
My question is: do I just bite the bullet and get a new pump or is there a way to override the power from within Aquasuite? Also, is it the default operation mode that if RPM readings are zero, then the quadro will refuse to adjust the power and always run at 100%? Sorry, I don't remember the exact model of the pump and it's not readable from within the case right now. I know it's one of the very common EK ones - not Aquacomputer with blue/yellow stickers, but the plain black text on white sticker. Thanks for reading!

Responding to myself:

This turned out to be a faulty header on the Quadro, so number 1 no longer co-operates and always outputs 100%. I moved my rad fans to header 4 and d5 pump to header 3 and now everything works. I bought the Quadro used, so I guess I just have to live with it and maybe buy a new at some point. I only need two headers for now and it's reassuring to see that when it's busted, it just goes to 100%. Much better to be annoyed than to lose your investment.
Also, intuitively it's hard to accept, but it looks like running your pump at 100% is actually a bad idea - it needs to stay in the rad long enough to give away that heat and if you run at 160L/h, the hot water just goes back into the block and causes your temps to be a bit higher. Now that I got the pump to run at 70%, my idle temps are back to what they used to be in the old build.

I have a similar issue. I don't know if mine is a faulty header, but I simply corrected it based on commanded power. Since this is a DC controller not PWN, commanded power can help set RPM as long as you know the max RPM. As you can see in the attached image my Alphacool D5 VPP is max 4500 RPM so I multiply commanded DC power percent by 45 and it gives me a linear RPM readout which should be relatively accurate.
