6800 doesn't fit!

Sonntag, 6. März 2005, 21:51

Went to fit the GFX block to my XFX 6800 non-ultra today.

It doesn't fit!

Is there a list somewhere of what it does and doesn't fit?

As well as that, would it damage the waterblock if part of it was cut off?

I'm meaning the black part on the right hand side of the block.

That part is the cooler for the voltage converter and it would be no good idea not to use it...

Thanks again Back Orifice.

Looks like that idea will not work.

I did, however, notice that Aqua-Computer also make a 6800LE block.

Is there a list of compatible cards for this?

As the card looks like it'd fit mine perfectly...

I have had a look at the site (very difficult since I cannot read German) but I don't see any such list.

Maybe you would need the LE edition:

But I have no idea if it will fit on your card.

back_orifice, on a non-ultra/gt there is no voltage converter on the right ;)

edit: damn, too late ;D

There is no list for this cooler.

Yes, my card layout is like that.

It's the added on part that causes the problem, not the main section.

I can get the added on part removed - my friend is an engineer, his company makes aerospace and oil industry parts. He can cut it to within a micron he tells me!

I just need to know if there is anything contained in that part, as it looks to me as if it's just there to give an extra attachment to the card.

If I damage the light it doesn't matter, I'm not very worried about whether it lights up or not.

Just as long as I don't cut into any pipes!

Edit : Sorry, I misunderstood.

You're saying that this part cools the voltage convertor on a GT or Ultra. That's fine, I have a 6800 and that part on mine does not need cooled.

So I can have this section removed?

You can cut off this part. There are no waterpipes inside.

I don't know the trading-laws in your country but in germany it is possible to return online ordered products within 14 days. Maybe you have something similar like this and can send it back and order the right cooler.

Yes, we do have that law here too, I could send it back to Kustompcs and they've already said that they'd happily refund me.

I don't know what the correct part is - the LE may fit, it might not.

It looks like it _could_ be exactly the same, just with this bit removed.

It's not going to cost me anything to get that part removed though, and it'll be quicker, cheaper and easier than sending it back :)

Besides, Kustompcs don't stock the LE version yet, so I'd have to wait until their next order from AC.
