Aquadrive Dual Problem

Sonntag, 1. Mai 2005, 00:28

Just thought I aught to raise a problem I'm having with the Aquadrive.
The rubber decoupling mounts cannot be done up tight enough to stop forward/backwards movement of the aquadrive in the 5_1/4inch rack. As they are only rubber pushed into holes there is nothing to stop rotation. I'll find some way to jam them whilst I tighten them or glue them if its still not possible to stop the movement - but it's not a problem I was expecting.

i think its a design flaw. i got one myself and found the
rubber couplings to be not man enough for the job. id
image its the same fixings on the standard aquadrive,
where its only got to support 1 harddrive & 1 aquadrive.

standard aquadrive:

4x rubber mounts support : 1x harddrive
1x aquadrive

dual aquadrive:

4x rubber mounts support : 2x harddrive
2x aquadrive (1x dual aquadrive)

really needed to be 8x rubber mounts to allow for the
extra weight. also there wasn't any harddrive screws
supplied with mine, and im having a hard time finding
some as they need to be longer to go though the ally
sections.

I have a AquaDrive question.
Visiting AC's online shop it would seem the only color for the units (the single as well as the dual) is BLUE.
I know the single was available in a silver-type color in the past. I hope AC has plans for color options for these wonderful units.

yes i find it funny too! the gpu coolers and aquatube are available in more than one colour, and yet not the aquadrives. weird. :'(

But chances are you're gonna pimp your blocks and AT but leave your aquadrive hidden in your drive bays.

Though I hafta say a titan dual aquadrive would be nice (hint hint) ;D

Zealot hope you have solved Aquadrive probs if not send me details and i will see what accessories we have got in our aladdins cave of screws , connectors and mounts that we collect just incase we might need. ( As a woman i would normally chuck in the bin but men tend to hoard everything just in case) :-/

@ cowd_tyke:

regarding your original problem with the rubber mounts, i don't know hw much room there is, but if you could put a spring washer in between the rubber mount and the pc case, as you tighten the screw into the the rubber grommet thing, the spring washer should grip it, and prevent it from turning, allowing you to tighten it fully! a bit fiddly i know, but worth it, if there's room. as i understand it, there is a little adjustment in the aquadrive for slight variations in hard drive size, but i don't know if this leaves any room down the side?  :-/

Thanks Mr_Modnar.
When I investigated I found the thread into the rubber bits is very short, so I found some shorter screws, added a washer and griped the metal bit through the 5 1/4 slots with bullnosed pliers till I go them tight enough to grip my painted drive bay.
I'm wondering if the drive came with these shorter screws and they got mixed up in the screw case when I unpacked. Either way problem now fixed. ;)

A clear anodized one and a black one would be hot in the American market. :P

They did make a "titan-color" single AquaDrive up until perhaps 6 months ago. I have one. I have no idea why they would stop or why they would pick to only make blue ones (or so it would seem)..

Now that is a sexy AquaDrive..

I still don't get how you secured the dual aquadrive? Using washers that fit around the rubber mount so that the hard drive cage and aquadrive both touch the washer? It seems that the single wouldn't have the issue. Modsquad, you selling the titan single?

Hi badash,

The problem was with the depth of thread on those rubber mounts. The screws I was using "hit bottom" before the screw was in enough to grip the drive cage.
I used some shorter screws and a washer (to make them even shorter) on the cage outer - and bullnose pliers through the cage hole to grip the metal insert of the mounts - and then tightened as much as I could.
Its sufficient to hold the Aquadrive dual but two rows of mounts would make me feel better.
