aquabay pump problem

Samstag, 14. Mai 2005, 21:34

hello,

i have a aquabay fitted into my new rig. no problems fitting
it. but i don't like seeing the pump. so i ordered a metal
jacket for the pump.

Aqua FMJ for Eheim 1046 & Aquastream

FMJ - Full Metal Jacket. Eheim 1046 and Aquastream 12v can be magnetically shielded from other components within your computer case. The stock front plastic housing will need to be removed from the pump to allow for clearance of the FMJ.

the pump looks great now stealthed in black. but due to the
fact that the metal casing is approx 5mm thicker overall, the
pump no longer fits the aquabay.

the mounting slots for the pump on the bay are to low by
approx 5mm . any had this trouble before ???

oh yeah, i did remove the stock front plastic housing from the pump

too low? do you mean the fmj impinges on the bay below? could you not move it to the bottom position? :D

no sorry maybe i was unclear.

with the metal jacket fitted to the pump, the pump no longer
fits onto the aquabay :-/ unfortunatly the mounting slots
only give you movement left and right. but with the jacket
fitted you would need to have up and down movement aswell.
or some sort of spacer to take the pump away more from the bay. as the jacket is fouling the bay.

dont help that in order to fit the pump into the jacket u have
to use the rubber anti-vibe couplings inside the jacket. if you
could fit the anti-vibes outside the jacket you would proberly
have enough clearance.

nope looking at it again, the only possible soultion would have
to be the spacer option. as moving the pump slots 5mm up
would allow the pump in cased in the jacket to fit.

but now i see another problem, in that the jacket in completely
flat at the bottom. this would stop me from being able to use
the aquajet as i had to do as in this picture.

Zitat von »Sib«

This is how I mounted my AquaBay. If you want to use the AquaJet you will have to use something like the anti-vibration couplings.

i don't think it's actually meant to fit i'm afraid!  :'(

if there is enough clearance for the fmj to go into two bays, you could use these:

http://rswww.com

item number 221-140

they are brass spacers with an 8mm deep m3 threaded hole in one end, and an 8mm long m3 threaded stud on the other, with 12mm of 'spacer' in between (well, sort of, the hole is incorporated in the spacer part).

you would screw these onto the protruding studs of the anti-vibe mounts instead of the nuts, and then push them through the holes in the aquabay and fasten with the nuts (providing you didn't throw them away whn reading the beginning of this sentence, which is now very long, so i shall stop)

this would move the pump backwards, and hopefully clear the lip on the aquabay!

hope this helps!  ;D

to be honest though, 50 of them will cost seven quid. i'm sure you've spent more than that on 4 tubing connectors from A-C?  ;D
