Aquagratix 6900 1000 euros and a burned graphics card...

Sonntag, 24. Juli 2011, 11:25

Hi all,

Just finished my watercooling setup with products solely from aqua computer. After installing windows and during installation of various drivers etc the screen went black and I had to reset the system. The temps on the cpu (i7 2600k) were 41 degrees but the temps on the graphics cards were =~ 80... This is without playing, doing anything with the card at all. Just being on windows..

After reseting when trying to login to windows, after the windows logo, the black screen reappered..

The only thing I can do now is boot up in safe mode but even then, and also during post my screen has black stripes. See attached picture :

That leads me to believe that my HD 6970 is damaged beyond repair, and of course cannot be RMA'd..

Any ideas/something I may be missing?

Regards

EDIT :

After disassembling almost everything I found out what the problem was. I am sharing this here so that others could benefit from my trials.

Twin connect has a screw which you MUST screw inside in order to manipulate the flow of the water according to your needs. I cannot emphasize how important this screw is. Treat is as your life depends on it.

By not screwing this inside the water will "choose" the less resistant way i.e. not through Aquagratix but through twinconnect.. That means that while your loop may seem to be working and your cpu is cool your cards will fry...

I hope someone reads this before he burns his cards too...

I'm not quite sure how you have used the twinconnect because when you do not install the screws the water runs through both blocks in parallel. Your configuration sounds a bit like you have used the inlet and out let on the same side which of course will not work because the water just runs through the adapter and leaves out the blocks.

Yes this is exactly what happened. I assumed the extra screw was to prevent water from getting out, but I had already many such screws from the waterblocks so I leaved that out. Only to find out later, what a mistake that was. Hoping that the cards will get repaired...
