How do I test the ATX breakline relay?

Dienstag, 4. September 2012, 02:23

I recently hooked up the ATX breakline to the PCB connected to a 720XT external rad sysyem. Pulled the J1 jumper, connected the standby power... set up the "System Failure" alarms to trip the relay fpr 2 sec, which should shut down the PC if the failure conditions are met. Is there a way to test this without setting a condition in the alarms? Anyway to trip the relay manually?? And then reboot normally?

If you are using any temp sensors then just connect one of them to an unused temp header, set an alarm for a really low temp on that header so that it triggers the alarm. After the test just unplug from that header and plug back in to the proper one. Remember to remove the alarm for the test temp header just in case you add a sensor there at a later date! :D

Is there no way to trigger the relay as a test? ?(

Yes, under Outputs, Switch outputs & relays, select it from the drop down and then select On. Once the PC shuts down then just unplug the relay from the AE and change the setting back then reconnect it.

But this in my opinion is not really a great test as you are just testing the relay, which you can do without anything connected (you can hear the relay switch) Personally I would want to test the Alarm to make sure it triggers the relay via an event (temp sensor), as I described above. This way you know the alarm and the relay work together as configured.

yeah - I agree, good point. I really should test this via an alarm event. I do not have any temp sensors connected to the PCB that i can disconnect (they are all in the external unit). Have to figure something out.

Just had a thought, set a fan alarm for no rpm signal for 6s then just stop the fan with your finger! :)

Excellent suggestion!
