Terrible experience with 3090 strix backplate

Sonntag, 4. Juli 2021, 22:38

First watercooling loop:
cuplex kryos NEXT VARIO pvd/nickel
3090 krographics next with active backplate
flow 2 sensor
utilitube d5 200 pro
octo fan controller
tygon a60g tubing
Bykski fittings
2 360 HWL gtx rads
arctic p12 fans
mayhems distilled liquid

After a long wait for all my parts received my 3090 strix active backplate missing my heatpipe and terminal point for my block, finally received all my parts after two different emails as i only received one of each missing piece. Drained down my loop today so I could finally install the missing hardware for my active backplate and noticed a pool of liquid under my vertically mounted 3090 strix before I could shut it down it green screened and shut off. After inspecting all my parts and disconnected all power off my mobo and jumping the psu to just run my pump I noticed beads of water coming out of the part of the terminal point where the heatpipe slides in. Has anyone had trouble with this part seems like a real shaky design. I noticed two different o rings inside the terminal block where the heatpipe slides in but they dont appear to be working. I luckily dried everything and installed the regular terminal point on the waterblock and my 3090 fired back up, thank god for distilled water being non conductive. Im hesitant on what to do next here as ive been dealing with customer service for a couple months now with this active backplate. I am getting very good temps without the heatpipe on my mem and vram.

You have to be careful when pushing in the heatpipe into the terminal. Moisten the pipe a bit (I use a bit of dishwashing water) before you install it and don't just push, also twist the pipe while you push it in.

I never had an issue with it. And I also have a very hard time believing that AC would forget two of the most essential parts of the delivery of the backplate, to be honest.

In any case, the VRAMs on the backside are the only component which are cooled by the backplate. In theory they don't need active cooling (they are cooled through the board itself by the main cooler), but I'd still be careful with overclocking the VRAM when not using the active backplate.

Yeah I had a hard time believing it as well but they did forget them despite there strong reputation, There is literally zero instructions when it comes to placing the heatpipe in the terminal I was very careful putting it in and it leaks a fast drop from the terminal.

That even more weird. Mine (7 of them) have all come with the heatpipe already inserted into the terminal.

I would love to have a 3090 in order to have this problem ;o)
