Is my RGBpx LED ring for Aqualis reservoirs broken beyond repair?

Samstag, 20. Juli 2024, 14:19

Dear Forum

I have noticed that only 4 LEDs are working on my RGBpx LED ring for my Aqualis reservoir.

I have this product:

https://shop.aquacomputer.de/Monitoring-…LEDs::3858.html

See this video I have created:

Is the ring beyond repair?

How is the controller set in the Aquasuite? For example, you can also set it so that only 4 LEDs are controlled.
A picture of the settings could help with the solution.

True. My bad. I have set up a controller that covers all 13 LEDs, but only the first 4 are working. I have also tried to limit the controller to just 1 LED and then move it from LED#2 to LED#3, LED#3, LED#4, etc. As soon as I reach LED#5, nothing works.
There is a cut line in the LED strip between LED#4 and LED#5, as you can also see in my video. I'm curious if one (or more) of the copper lanes are broken there. I could try to apply some solder to those copper lanes to see if it restores the LED ring to its full potential. Just wanted to hear if others have had the same issue and what they did to resolve it.

It looks like the LED strip has a break in the power, ground, or data line between LEDs 4 and 5. You may be able to get it working by putting some solder on the 3 pads, making sure the solder crosses the break line in the center of the pad. Its strange that the strip would fail without being flexed back and forth.

I think the Aquacomputer LEDs are just WS2812B or maybe SK6812. These LEDs have a single serial data line and if there is a break, no LEDs past that point will work. The next-gen equivalent LEDs (WS2813 and SK6822) have dual data lines D and B. The serial data is sent down both lines. Each LED checks the data on the DIN and BIN lines and compares them. If the data is not equal, the LED switches to the BIN line.

Thanks! Very good information!

The error has been located. It's the middle line that's broken under LED#4. If I short it, the rest of the LED strip works as intended. Thank you for replying, everyone!
