Aquisuite or Leakshield Firmware Update Causes Leakshield Unable to Release Pressure and Loud Ticking Noises

I've had my AquaComputer D5 Next Ultitube 200, Leakshield, and Octo running fine for around 1 to 1.5 years since I purchased them. I haven't updated Aquasuite or their firmwares in probably 6 months to 1 year. Today, I updated Aquasuite and Leakshield Firmware to their newest version. Immediately I restarted the PC after the updates were complete, 2 problems immediately started occuring.

1) The Leakshield now is unable to release it's pressure. I tried changing modes, doing tests, etc. I tried to use the deaerate system function, pressure test, changing modes, etc. nothing works to release the pressure. I'm even in "Release Mode" and it will still not release pressure. Even when I start a test and then abort the test, the pressure is not released at the end of the test or when I abort the test.

2) When I start some of the tests/functions, the LeakShield now makes some very loud clicking noises. I don't know if it's doing this because the Leakshield is trying to start the tests while there is already pressure in the system (since it cannot release pressure anymore due to "problem 1").

I never, EVER had either of these 2 issues in 1 to 1.5 years. They started suddenly and immediately after I performed the most recent Aquasuite and Leakshield firmware update around 30 minutes ago.

That is strange, and I am sure infuriating. I have a Leakshield and am running Aquasuite X.84 and Leakshield Firmware version 1022. The Leakshield Firmware was updated with Aquasuite X.83. The update notes say Bug Fix – Alarm Actions and Update: Pump speed increased (reduced pumping times). Neither should cause what you are observing. It could be a coincidence that your Leakshield pressure relief valve happened to get stuck closed or fail at the same time you did the update, but that seems unlikely. Hopefully, someone from Aquacomputer will respond. If they don’t, send an email to support.

Do you know if it's possible to revert to older firmware somehow? Then I can test it again with older firmware. But it literally started IMMEDIATELY after the update so, ya, the chances of the update/s not having anything to do with it are like astronimical.

I have seen many posts requesting a regression of Aquasuite, and the answer has always been NO. If the update included a firmware update, the answer is double NO. Since no one from Aquacomputer seems to be responding to this thread, I suggest emailing support. This forum is not really a support forum. Its more of a community forum that the Aquacomputer guys sometimes will post in, but no guarantee. If you want a response from them about what may have caused this and if there is any chance of regressing Aquasuite and flashing the previous firmware version, send an email to support. There is a SUPPORT button in the upper right side of the forum window. If you click on it a page opens with the email address for support. Here it is.

What they will probably say is that if the updated Aquasuite or updated Leakshield firmware was causing your problem, they would be flooded with posts and emails reporting the same thing. Since they are not getting tons of reports of the same problem, that means the updates did not cause it and it is something specific to your system. I don't mean to discourage you, but I have seen them say this before, and it is a fair point. You could ask them if the pressure release valve is something that you can replace, and if they can send you one. They are pretty good about providing replacement parts. Good luck!

There have been no recent changes to how LEAKSHIELD works, so I think the problem is more likely to be a silly coincidence. As Speedy-VI already mentioned, if there were a general problem, we would have received countless reports by now, but that is not the case.

If not already done, the first thing you should try is to reset LEAKSHIELD to its factory defaults. This is done in the system tab. When you start the test mode, wait a moment and abort it, you should have a quick feedback if the problem is still there.

The weird noise that you hear is very likely the valve which would indicate that it seems to be working. Since the negative pressure is not getting released, it could be maybe a problem with a clogged membrane. You can check that in the system tab of LEAKSHIELD. There is a diagnosis button that will bring up a new window with some test options. You will have to perform the test where LEAKSHIELD has to be removed from the loop. Make sure to grab the glass tube when you unscrew LEAKSHIELD to avoid that it comes loose at the base. In this test, LEAKSHIELD simply pumps the air without resistance, creating a slight vacuum internally. If a threshold value is exceeded (wil be shown), this is usually a clear indication that the membrane is clogged, which can lead to all kinds of problems.

It's stuck at -115 mbar...after I did some tests to try and remove the air, it's now stuck at -251 mbar. I tried releasing via Aquasuite and the Leakshield itself multiple times but no release would actually occur.

I did the test but the one while the Leakshield is still connected and got this:


I reset it to factory settings but nothing. I also updated to the newest version of Aquasuite (X.88 ) around 10 minutes ago. Also, increasing pressure seems to happen much slower than before but I don't know if that's just how the tests are designed with the new firmware and/or software. Also, the unit seems to go up and down in pitch whenever it increases pressure - kind of sounds like it's struggling - goes up in pitch slightly, then down in pitch slightly, and repeat. Again, not sure if this is indication of an issue or intended since the previous update.

Unit pumped fast, no up/down-repeat pitch noise, and released pressure perfectly literally it's whole life including around 1 hour before I updated. If the update had nothing to do with it, and it worked perfectly 1 hour before updating, and then all the issues occurred literally immediately after updating, then that is the most astronomical coincidence of all coincidences. Either way, how to we proceed to resolve this?

UPDATE:

I attempted some more "random" tests in Aquasuite, entered the distance-height from top to bottom of loop, etc. Still stuck at -245 mbar.

I then tried one last time the release function on the Leakshield itself and SUDDENLY IT WORKED.
I then did more tests again and now everything is back to normal:
- Pitch variation during pumping? Gone
- Extremely slow pumping? Gone
- Releasing not working (from, both, Leakshield and Aquasuite)? Gone

So, clearly not a hardware issue - even more evidence something to do with the Aquasuite update and/or firmware update.

Wow - Its been several months since you posted about this. Has the release valve been stuck all this time? Maybe the release valve was stuck for some reason, and the other things you observed are symptoms of the root problem - relief valve stuck closed. Maybe the firmware update was corrupt, or the Leakshield did not reboot properly after the update? Maybe a piece of debris/foreign material somehow got into the valve mechanism? Faulty valve control wire? Grasping at straws here. Hopefully Shoggy will know exactly what is going on. I would cycle the vacuum pump a few times to exercise the valves and see if it gets stuck again.
